Nightcrawler

Today I'm talking about a movie made in 2014, directed and written by Gan Gilroy. Nightcrawler, with Jake Gyllenhaal.

At first, I really didn't know what was it going to be about, I read the synopsis but when I was watching the movie it was completely different of what I read.
I have to be honest with you, I only started watching the movie because I saw a top 10 YouTube video about real accidents during a film, with very famous actors who actually injured themselves so the movie take could have a great scene. So, let me tell you a curious fact about this film: there is this scene where Louis Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal) is in his bathroom and his looks himself in the mirror, and he is so angry that he actually breaks the mirror (accidentally... maybe) and gets his hand injured. Unfortunately he had to receive some stitches in his hand, but nothing more.

So, this movie is about an unemployed guy who (I think) doesn't have a clue about what does he want to do for a living. So first, he asks for a job in a construction, but the man in charge refuses to give him the job, so when he was driving home he saw an accident in the highway, so he pulled over and saw some freelance camera crew filming what was going on in the accident, and he was so interested that he asked them for a job, but they refused to give him a job as well.

I must say that this movie is about getting what you want at any cost, at any lie.
So, let's move on.

Lou Bloom was so excited he buys a camera and a police radio, and starts filming the accidents in an unusual angle and a little morbid way, he goes to a T.V. Network and sells them his footage. He keeps on lying saying that he has his own T.V. new business, so he hires an assistant to help him get the footage he wants. He is capable to do anything so he can be the best at taking crime footage. As he says: "I would never ask you to do anything that I wouldn't do myself.".

Lou Bloom means Lie, Cruelty, Cynicism, Treason.

I won't spoil you the movie, because I really think this is a movie you must see before you die. But, let me tell you this, I really like how Jake Gyllenhaal builds this character because Lou Bloom is a natural psychopath willing to do everything at any cost.

Like Joe Williams, a top critic of Rotten Tomatoes says: "Like an alternate version of Network in which Faye Dunaway cannibalises the conscientious William Holden character, Nightcrawler cleverly dispenses with any debate about the tyranny of ratings and the erosion of privacy.".
